Power sector, reduction in foreign direct investment

ISLAMABAD: Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the power generation sector in the country has declined on an annual basis (compared to the same period of FY 2021) in the first 11 months of the last financial year.

According to SBP data, from July to May 2022, the country recorded a foreign direct investment of 56 566.9 million in the power generation sector, which is 52.49 percent less than the same period of FY 2021. The sector recorded a foreign direct investment of 8 864.5 million. During May, the country recorded a foreign direct investment of .5 38.5 million in the power generation sector.

According to the SBP, in the first 11 months of the last financial year, the country recorded foreign direct investment of 128 128.9 million in fuel-fired power projects, 14 142 million in hydropower and 29 296 million in coal-fired power projects.
