International calls for practical action for Uyghurs have grown stronger – Uyghur

International calls for action have intensified after the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet released a long-awaited report concluding that “the Chinese government’s atrocities against Uighurs and other Muslims may constitute crimes against humanity.”

Many international human rights organizations have called on the United Nations as well as Western democracies such as the United States to take action.

The Victims Of Communism Memorial Foundation, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Freedom House and other organizations released statements on Twitter calling for the United Nations and the free democratic world to act now, send independent investigators to the region, and punish the Chinese government. They said they should.

After the report was released, 60 Uyghur organizations in 20 countries issued a joint statement calling on the international community, including governments, multilateral agencies and international companies, to take action. The call published on the website of the World Uighur Congress states:

“This UN report is very important. It paves the way for practical and effective action by member states, UN agencies and the global business community.

President of the World Uyghur Congress, Isa Sag, said in his statement that “responsibility must begin now.”

“Freedom Hall”, a prestigious human rights organization in the United States, welcomed the fact that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights finally identified the oppression of Uyghurs in a call on Twitter, stressing: “Freedom Hall clearly believes that these facts constitute genocide and crimes against humanity.” . All governments should make concerted efforts to bring those who are committing and benefiting from these crimes to account, and take punitive and restrictive measures aimed at products produced in the Uyghur region.
